The Brief

This contract was to strengthen an existing bridge to achieve 40 tonnes capacity.
The works included excavating around/either side of the existing brick arch and then casting new concrete foundations, construction of a new reinforced concrete deck, applying a sprayed waterproofing system to the new bridge deck and then reinstating the carriageway.

Night time working was initially required and then a single lane Traffic Management System was achieved by constructing a temporary running surface over the verge and utilizing TVCB’s to provide a safe working area.

Water flow and depth checks were done before erecting supports for the existing arch and involves additional risks of working in and around water.
